You can get an ADT security system installed for a mere $99 as long as you sign up for a minimum of three years of service, but the units itself are worth only $399. If $399 is a little out of your budget or you don’t like the idea of signing on to 3 years of service at $35 a month, you could always just buy a security system decal for your windows and a sign for your lawn on eBay for a few bucks!
See, part of the security system’s power is in the fact that its signs can be a deterrent to potential thieves. Thieves essentially come in two varieties: seasoned thieves and novice thieves. The signs will invoke different reactions out both groups but in either case the thief is less likely to target your house if they believe a security system is in place.
To a seasoned thief, if they wanted to get into your house in the first place then a security system wouldn’t deter them. If they were just scoping the place out, you’re moved from the easy pickings list to the moderately harder pickings list; that means all the houses without security signs are easier targets. To the novice thief, they don’t want to mess with a house with a security system so they’ll just pick houses off on the easy pickings list. In either case, you’re either a non-target or one that isn’t going to be an easy target.

remember your high school physics…the past of least resistance. even seasoned thieves will go for the least resistance. a sign does is a deterrent , unless it looks out of place.
Great article. Adt signs or any other security sign for that matter can be a solid theft deterrant.
