It’s the summer and that means you’re probably going to a barbecue or two and perhaps hosting a few grilling events at your home. Given the dangers of open flame and the home, I think it’s important to review some grilling safety tips so that you don’t burn your house or apartment down.
- Grill outside. Don’t try to use a grill indoors or you’ll most likely burn your house down.
- Keep the area around your grill clutter-free. You don’t want to drop on something and knock your grill over, it would ruin a perfectly good meal.
- Double check the fuel lines for leaks. The easiest way is to put soapy water on it and see if it bubbles.
- Check your propane tank for leaks (the same way).
- Don’t grill in high winds unless your grill can stay upright, a knocked over grill is very dangerous.
- Exhibit care when grilling on wooden decks, one spill could result in disaster.
- Don’t grill underneath canopies if you can avoid it, high flames could catch the canopy and cause a much bigger fire.
- Have fun!
