When it comes to safes, as in secure and protective storage devices, you really have a choice between three basic types: fire-resistant, burglar-resistant, and both (combination fire and burglar resistant). Each one of those types are rated on a scale based on how long the safe can withstand the attack its suffering from. With fire-resistant safes, it’s how many hours the safe can withstand fires and protect the contents. With burglar-resistant safes, it’s how many hours the safe can withstand an attack (ranging from 15 minutes to one hour) as well as what kind of attack (drill, tool, torch, etc.) The combination safes may either be an integrated option where the safe contains burglar resistance aspects with a fire resistant wall, or they could be a burglar resistance safe inside of a fire resistant safe.
Next I’ll discuss the two types and what the ratings mean for each.
