It appears that Allstate will no longer be writing homeowners insurance policies in the state of California starting in July of 2007 in an attempt to limit their exposure to catastrophes like earthquakes, mudslides, and wildfires (Allstate no longer offered earthquake insurance). They say it has nothing to do with their request to increase premiums by an average of 12% but it sure smells like it does, either way, new insurance policies will go through Pacific Specialty Insurance Co, a partner of Allstate.
California joins Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, New Jersey and eight coastal New York counties as places Allstate will have stopped offering homeowners insurance in an attempt to reduce their exposure to other catastrophes like hurricanes.
This will not affect auto insurance through Allstate in California.
